Ryan Harth Steigerwald Medical Center (RHSMC) wants to help you optimize your health, not just facilitate healing when you feel ill. We want to see you thriving, not just surviving. We believe that most people settle for less than optimal health because they don’t realize how much better they could actually feel! Because we operate outside of the Medical-Industrial-Insurance Complex, we have more freedom than other physician practices. We can spend time with patients and explore the root causes of diseases. We can also explore non-traditional forms of healing and wellness.
One of these emerging non-traditional promising practices for health care is Community Health Groups (CHG). There is a growing amount of data that demonstrate that group health visits are an efficient and effective way for people to get and maintain their health and RHSMC would like to start implementing these. Community Health groups take a lifestyle approach to health problems. Participants are empowered through groups because we are not alone in the medical issues that we face. Participants support each other through listening and sharing. Education, learning, and growth take place through working together and encouraging each other. Trustworthy relationships are built and life skills are developed. People can, through the wisdom of the community, gain control of their health and prevent disease.
A holistic lifestyle approach means that we address the biological, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of well-being. Are you dealing with chronic pain? Would you like to lose weight? Are you wondering how you can sleep better? What kind of exercise is best for you? These are the kinds of issues for which there is no medical therapy. In fact, most of the chronic diseases people suffer from can be mitigated or healed through lifestyle changes. But lifestyle changes are hard! It can be much easier to accomplish your goals with support!
Potential Community Health Group themes may include the following:
- Women’s health
- Nutrition and Exercise
- Weight Management and Health Essentials
- Age-related (teens, seniors, etc. )
- Women’s/Men’s health
- Condition-related (pain, hypertension, diabetes, etc.)
- Supportive Change (smoking cessation, addiction, etc.)
- Mind-Body practices
- Feel free to add your own ideas!
